I'm the only one not surprised by the cheating

Both of them would've cheated; Issa just did it first. Also, their relationship showed that people need to stop settling, be honest and move on. You only hurt yourselves in the long run by passing up people who could make you happy because you look for reasons to "work it out". Hopefully, they don't get back together and Lawrence still works on his app. Issa needs to quit that job, too.

Lawrence would not have cheated. He had the opportunity and he didn't take it. With Issa it was inevitable. She always had Daniel in her back pocket.

"What race are you? If you don't tell me I'll just...assume the worst."

reply

He didn't do it right away because he didn't have his S.ugar H.oney I.ced T.ea together

reply

I honestly don't think Lawrence would have cheated on her. He was hurt; that's why HE cheated. I think his phone call in the strip club was sincere at the time. Issa cheated because she wanted to.

reply

They were broken up, he didn't cheat.

True. Supports my case even more.

It's like I typed (the original post) myself! Couldn't agree more! I don't stand for settling in any respect, and it does sort of rub me the wrong way that she's chasing Lawrence as if he's anything to want. Please.

While I definitely lean both sides, I lean toward Issa. I saw one blog that read if Lawrence was sticking it to Issa the way he did that teller Issa would have been like Daniel who? I agree with that sentiment. Issa vented about her overall relationship and sexual frustration in the pilot. I mean on her birthday Lawrence was just chilling on the couch and only gave the perfunctory happy birthday. I know his finances were tight but you could do SOMETHING. Lawrence's inexcusable funk is what frustrated Issa. That is why she threatened to leave and that is what made Lawrence start to get it together.

So at the strip club, for him to act like he did all these things for Issa like it was a noble act and all on his own motivation is bogus. I do give him credit for not cheating when teller girl threw it at him and believed in him, but Issa putting you on the ropes is what made you get it together, not your own ambition. If it were your own ambition, the conditions would have never been created to cause infidelity.

So that is why I'm a bit shocked Lawrence was soooo pissed at her cheating. I get being upset and all but to go to those lengths of cussing her out and breaking a table and storming out and ignoring her was extra. Had he been handling his Daniel wouldn't have had a chance to begin with. I think it says a lot about Lawrence. He isn't a bad guy but I think he feels entitled to an extent.

I know Issa ain't perfect, but if my girlfriend cheated on me after 5 years of me being in a funk...I'd take a look in the mirror and ask what I did wrong.

reply

I dont think he was in a funk for five years. They had been together for five years. He wasn't in a funk the whole time. He was ready to marry that girl and said he was all in it...but she still gives it up. (when he had the opportunity but turned it down) Hell yeah I would have been PIST if I was him and I would have done the same thing.

reply

This completely.

I'm nodding away reading your post. But when i reached to 'Hopefully, they don't get back together and Lawrence still works on his app. Issa needs to quit that job, too.' I was not nodding so much. I'm in kind of the same situation. No cheating though. And my bf is the one constantly trying to work it out. I believe in him. We have been together for a minute. It's not like I gave up and cheated on him with someone rich who pursued me (my bf is poor and trying to make something of himself).

You need to have that particular goal in common. the difference i see with myself and issa is that if my bf says 'i want to do this app. open my own business. this and that.' i will totally get down with that. motivate him even more. that is my kind of *beep* I would help to structure and build something like that. i love to build things from the ground up. On the other hand, issa was saying 'no. take that job and settle for that *beep* And there the problem lies. they don't see eye to eye. They are both settling. So you are on point with the cheating part.

if you're with someone and there is something much bigger than the cheating, you may be able to overcome the cheating in a particular circumstance. What i'm trying to say is maybe they might show where there is something much bigger in the relationship that we don't actually know about. and maybe they can still salvage. OR, Issa is *beep* up and not the one for Lawrence but thinking she is. OR Lawrence is *beep* up and thinking that Issa might still be the one for him. Anyhow you take it, DRAMA!!

No, Issa wasn't saying'no. take that job and settle for that *beep." Lawerence had been working on that app and unemployed for four years. Issa told him to take the job and continue to work on his app on nights and weekends. Besides, if he had been working on that app diligently, he may have already had it up and running. We saw a lot of sitting around and watching TV.

settling is being honest with yourself. it's saying "i'm too weak to be on my own and i need someone with me".
