Awkward Black Girl or Insecure, Which do You Prefer?

I was wondering how many people who watched Insecure also watched Issa's web series Awkward Black Girl. For those who watched both, which do you prefer and why?

Obviously, Insecure has a bigger budget, better production values, and is tonally darker and more complicated in its portrayals of its characters. In many ways its a more nuanced and complex show than Awkward Black Girl. However, I do miss the sheer fun, more direct bluntness, and comedy of Awkward Black Girl.

In my opinion, Insecure is a better show and I get a lot of out it and the questions and issues and realness it brings to the fore front, but I enjoy Awkward Black Girl as entertainment more.

I enjoy both. I think that they share some things -Issa's rapping, getting to hear her real thoughts, and Cee Cee who was her best friend in ABG is now her co-worker in Insecure. There are also some differences, Insecure has more of a black-focus socially than did ABG because now her best friend and group of friends are black. I am hoping that she will continue to integrate other features of ABG into Insecure.

I agree w/you. I LOVED ABG and the authenticity of the characters/situations. I adored Cece as the best friend and miss that relationship. I looked forward to new episodes much more than I do w/Insecure. Something's missing for me w/the new show, although I'm thrilled that Issa's comedy is now being exposed to a larger audience and she's getting paid well!
