the show is better than the comic series. I just re-read the first 7 issues of the series and what a contrast. The comic hits the ground running and barely has time to introduce the 3 main characters. Just about everyone is unpleasant and nasty to the point of the absurd. Sheriff Root is a bigot who deserves his freak son. And I doubt the show would have his fate broadcast.

The show allowed for a better introduction to the main 3 and the set up. The characters are more rounded than simple foul mouthed caricatures. One hopes the road trip will be planned out, that NYC serial killer storyline seemed pointless to Preacher's plot.

That is a serious understatement, especially the last few episodes.

The show is just as puerile as the comic (maybe more so, as it arguably packs more extreme violence and sex into the opening 'chapter' than the comic did), but doesn't have the same quality of dialog, consistent pacing or sense of mystery as the source material. So all the blood and guts and sex of the show seems even more desperate and tacky.
