goodbye to a great artist.

Damn. depressing news, I've been enjoying his Punisher series. Solid artist and storyteller, no flashy bs just pure storytelling R.I.P.

Only 54 years old, wtf??

reply

For sure, couldn't have put it better myself: pure storytelling. I grew up reading 2000ad and when Steve's artwork appeared it was always a joy: he could do the crazy worlds of Dredd, Rogue Trooper and the like. But he could also design a page of two guys talking crap in a bar in Preacher and make it interesting. Drawing a comic book isn't just about doing little panels where boring stuff happens before big overblown splash-page battles. It's about page/chapter composition, pace, mood, emotion. Steve did it all effortlessly and he'll be missed for sure.

Just saw the news and came here to pay my respects. 2016 continues to take away all the good ones on earth instead of taking out the trash (and we all know who those people are). I had just started re-reading Skreemer again last night which he inked. Garth must be devastated. They had done so many projects together over the last 25+ years. Thank you Steve for all the memorable comics.

How very Christian of you...

Damn.

Just 54 freaking years old.

An awesome artist, gone too soon.

Rest in Peace.

No one did "I'm still trying to process this" expressions better than Steve. A great artist. While the comic was well written, it would not have been quite as much fun without Dillon.

The tribute page over on the A.V club has some of Dillon's finest work on display.

That polar bear panel from The Punisher never fails to bring some cheer, in bleak moments. One of the many gifts that Steve Dillon has left us.

It seems his death was due to a ruptured appendix...

His friend and collaborator Garth Ennis, a comic book writer, said the cause was a ruptured appendix that Mr. Dillon at first assumed was food poisoning.

WHAT?!?! This is the first I've heard of it! That's sad, he will truly be miss : (

reply

so sad, this man was a master of drawing, always loved to see his name on a comic. Sometimes i skipped certain issues because they brought in outside artists because they couldnt hold a candle to his talent.
