so darkly filmed but yes there was a hooded masked figure behind the door.

It was Elena; she appeared once to Kaspar, and then to Louise at the end.

I dont know whether its Elena or not.. one reason I dont think its Elena is because when Elena dies she finds herself walking in the woods toward none other than a dark robed figure.. and also, when Elena appears to Kasper she is not a robed figure, but rather herself, regular clothes, hair down..

Maybe it is Elena, maybe its not.. just like with every other detail in the movie its all left completely open-ended, no answers, no indications as to who/what/why anything happened throughout the entire film.

I didn't notice a mask like another poster mentioned but I watched that scene twice trying to discern who it was, and I don't believe it was an apparition of Elena or Kasper, but rather some other random dude wearing black. I just took it to mean that there was some sort of other-wordly entity somehow tied to/watching over the baby. It was a pretty ambiguous movie though. I still don't entirely get it, but I'm sure that was the intent.

I believe it was just an evil entity protecting the baby and somehow manipulating the mother to take care of such creature.
