What's the big deal about this movie?

The trailer doesn't show anything fantastic. It looks like an average war movie. The visuals and sound effects aren't dazzeling either. The only reason I put this movie on my Top 10 Most Anticipated Movies of 2017, is because of hype. I don't want to be the only movie buff to have not seen it. And that also gives me more reasons to criticize the film if it doesn't turn out to be a dissappointment - which is very likely at this point.

The fact that you don't know what it is, means that it's the perfect time to tell this story to a new generation.

I know the history. I've seen Apocalypse Now Redux, Saving Private Ryan, Hacksaw Ridge, Platoon and others. It's the visual effects for Dunkirk and acting that don't impress me much at all. I expected better from Nolan.

Agree that it doesn't look special but I have faith in Nolan as a director. He's not Michael Bay so I'm not expecting crap like Pearl Harbor. Hopefully he won't disappoint me.

Peal Harbor had some beautiful cinematography though.

That was my point... I still remember its beautiful trailer... my excitement to see it... and then... blech.

Well we will see how strong the writing is for Dunkirk and if its toned down visual style doesn't take away from the overall effect of the story.

reply

Yes, if it was another director and I only saw the trailer... I would say that looks good... but I wouldn't think it was anything special. Let's hope the story and acting are strong.
