I just saw this movie again, on Amazon Prime ...

It is so unique and brilliant, I would really recommend it to anyone. It is a talk movie, no action. It is all conceptual. It is about a future where there is a tech service that creates holographs of people from the past for older people who are housebound and do not have any social life or friends. They have someone to talk to and tell stories to, and the holograph will remember and be able to tell them back to the person and work them into conversation.

John Hamm, Tim Robbins and Geena Davis do excellent acting jobs, but the cake is taken by Lois Smith, born in 1930, who plays the aging Marjorie. I gave this movie a 5/5 for its brilliance.

I ran across this last night on Prime and started watching. I love Tim Robbins, Geena Davis, and Jon Hamm, plus it sounded like an interesting premise.

Unfortunately I fell asleep (no reflection on the movie, just tired) so now I'm going to have to watch it all over again.

I wasn't familiar with Lois Smith, but she (and everyone) gave a great performance from what I saw.

I finished this last night and have to say I was disappointed. I really *wanted* to like it.

The problem for me wasn't that it's slow (although it is), it's that it hit the same emotional tone all the way through, and that tone is a depressing dissonant one. Didn't like the score either. Several times the music was too loud and felt jarring, so it took me out of the movie for a few moments.

That said, the performances were excellent, by everyone.

I noticed that both Hamm and Robbins were (along with others) executive producers, so obviously they believed in it and I respect them both, but this wasn't a winner for me. 6/10
