I saw the trailers and was expecting Menace II Society but what I actually watched was Brokeback Mountain meets The Cosby Show.

Kinda pathetic that they had to intentionally market this movie disingenuously rather than try to sell it on it's on merits.

How was it like The Cosby Show? Where were the colorful sweaters?

LOL, that's what I wondered. I never saw this movie but read about it. I too was wondering how was it like the Cosby Show? Maybe the main character ended up in an upwardly mobile black family.

Without going into laborious detail, that is the exact opposite of what happens in the movie.

I think what OP meant by comparing it to the Cosby Show was that it’s another example of “enlightened racism”.
