The show creator just announced that the 4th season will be the last.
How do you feel about that?
Four seasons is pretty good. It has to end eventually and it is better to wrap up the story in a satisfying way, then to drag it out for years.

shareI don't know if that is an honest reply or sarcasm, but honestly to me there is a difference. It's like the difference between quitting/retiring or getting fired. I just really appreciate them ending it while it's still awesome.

About "quitting while on top", well to me it's just stupid BECAUSE previously the show writer went on record to say that he has enough material for 6-8 seasons planned out. And let's be honest now, nowadays a season is 11-13 episodes, not 20-24 episodes like in the good old days. So it's even less work to fill up a season, but he is just not up to the job anymore it seems.
Mike Schur said awhile ago that they had a plan for 4 seasons, but were willing to have more if they still had ideas to keep the show moving forward. When he announced that the show was ending he talked about his friend who worked on Lost and how that plot stalled for a while, and they had a promise in the writers room to never do that with this show, and that they had even snuck reminders for themselves into the show.
I know I've said this before on the Lucifer board that longer seasons can hurt a show. Especially one like this with so many twists. So many US tv shows go on for way too long and keep declining in the ratings and we remember a time when the show was still good and interesting, or just stop watching and wonder how that show is still on. I'm sad that this is ending but I'm surprised it's been as amazing as it has been for 3 seasons, and knowing that they are writing the 4th with the end in mind, I'm sure it will be just as good.
I think four seasons will be enough.
