Jacksonville

As a nearly lifelong resident of Jacksonville, Florida, I wonder why the show's creators selected the place as Jianyu/Jason's home town. I've loved the jokes - heck, around here we ourselves often rib the city as "the world's largest small town." Is some staff member on the show originally from Jacksonville, maybe? Or did they pick it off of a list of cities just barely well-enough known to register on people outside of the area without seeming too big and important to be the butt of the show's jokes?

I like Jacksonville. I've been there about three times for different reasons. Everybody has been very friendly and it is well laid out. It's also Florida's most populated city, which surprises a lot of people. I bet you're right about someone on the show being from there.

I've never been to Jacksonville, but as a resident of the west coast I can say that the common perception of Jacksonville (and Florida, in general) is of "Flordia Man" headlines. There's a whole reddit devoted to newspaper articles beginning with "Flordia man" and then describing a moron doing something completely idiotic and/or evil. Like when Jason said he hit a manatee with his jet ski... that would fit into that stereotype.
