The name "Fake Eleanor" is immature

Calling her "Fake Eleanor" is being judgmental. It implies she got into The Good Place intentionally. She resents being called Fake Eleanor and she should. A truly nice person would not do that. This show is doing it to be humorous; it is using the "laugh at" mentality instead of "laugh with" mentality for humor.

It would be totally appropriate to call her Misplaced Eleanor and there are plenty of alternatives.

I don't like the show being judgmental and calling her that name that is not accurate and that she resents and portraying it as being good.

no one asked you

Wrong. The IMDB did; that is what the discussion forums are for.

ru retarted?

reply

Maybe I am. That however is not relevant to the discussion of the name "Fake Eleanor". So unless you have something relevant to that to say I will stop trying to get our discussion oriented into a useful direction.

He's a known troll (just check his screen name, says it all). Don?t feed the trolls. Plus only a complete fool would type "RU" unless they were on Twitter or referring to Russia.

reply

The only one we should be laughing at is Sam953 because the writers acknowledge the fact they did this intentionally ie, when Fake Elanor turns to real Elanor at the very end of EP9 and says "thank you for calling me Elanor". So jokes on him I guess? (P.s. hashtag #Not-all-trolls)

reply

I agree. I would hate being called fake Sierra. It is an unfair thing for her to have to deal with. Nice people would change it especially after she said something.

They don't have the same middle name, right? So they some call them Eleanor Blank.

But you're right it is a way to try to get laughs. They do a similar thing in "Last Man on Earth".

You are right but not the way you think.

The writers did it to show that the good place doesn't live up to its own PR. The very idea that they would judge people as deserving of eternal torture simply for being jerks is the opposite of good. Callously calling her fake eleanor is in line with that.

reply

yeah for real this is a comedy program. people need to calm the *beep* down!

reply

I think people understand "laugh at". I can't understand what you are saying.

Are you a writer of the show? Unless you are then we can't be sure what their intent is.

If you are going to insist that you know then I am going to get stubborn too.

reply

I have hunch you were stubborn even before I posted.

reply

I have noticed that the only people that call me stubborn are people that are stubborn with me. I enjoy a good discussion but when people are stubborn they take all the fun out of the discussion.

You are so right.

Why blame the show when the characters do something stupid? They've been doing stupid things all season.

reply

Why blame the show when the characters do something stupid?
Because the characters are actually creations of the writers. The writers are entirely to blame for what the characters do.

The producers could produce shows using better writers. The additional cost would be small compared to all the other costs of producing shows. The additional cost would actually increase the overall income because more people would watch shows that are written better, so the producers are being stupid for not using better writers.

reply

Well now you know, Eleanor is in Hell, and that's why she was called fake, precisely to upset her.

reply

My point is that it was immature to call her Fake Eleanor. I think it is more appropriate to reply to anyone that thought it was appropriate to call her that. I won't be more clear than that so as to not spoil things.

reply

You just don't get it.

Its like when you watch a horror movie, you know the writers are terrible because people get killed on screen. If they were better writers, none of the characters would die. And then more people would watch and the movie would make more money. Its really quite obvious.

reply

You are truly a ray of sunshine in every post in here. Wow.

reply

Now we know. The joke's on the OP. Fake Eleanor was actually the Real Eleanor.

reply

I don't even think the OP even cared about that. The poster just was upset that they called her a snarky name. The OP seems to not realize that the show is a comedy apparently.

reply

I thought the whole fake Eleanor bit was hysterical! My husband and I cracked up at it.

reply

How about Ersatz Eleanor?

My Chimp DNA seems to have lost its password temporarily. Sluggr-2

reply

Wait... Wait... Wait... Are you saying the problem is that they chose a name that is judgmental?

You do realize the whole point of a "good place" and "bad place" is that you are being judged right?!?

reply

Okay, I will agree that I am being judgmental. That does not excuse calling her "Fake Eleanor" and I see nothing wrong with me saying that. More important than that is that the show seems to be saying that good people would use names like that.

Note that I created this discussion before seeing the latest episode, "S1.E13 Michael's Gambit". I don't want to spoil things any more than necessary for anyone watching the series in the future, but that episode is highly relevant to this discussion.
