Spoiler Thought About "The Good Place"

If this place was meant to be ironic torture then sign me up. I've had good jobs and personal situations that provided more anxiety than that place provided for those 4. They've got food, perfect weather, shelter and no immediate threat of violence.

I agree, that place seemed pretty nice even with the issues they had to face. The thing is, this was tailored to their personalities to be as stressful as possible so even though you'd be fine with it to them it was almost unbearable.

Although I still think even if it was tailored to a social situation I hate (it would be crowds for me), it does still beat constant torture and suffering. And you're right, they still had a bunch of good stuff in between the mental anguish. But maybe the intention was to gradually take that stuff away, they just never got far enough to do it.

I think the creator meant for this torture to be more of the subtle "Chinese water torture" style. Being that the characters are lead to believe that everything in their afterlife should be perfect only to find things unraveling is a slow, mental torture rather than physical.

I also think that because it is a show, the creator understood that viewers want to invest in a world that they enjoy spending time in. I think understanding the viewer as well as the storytelling played a large role in how this world was created and presented. It is still enjoyable to the outside, and still funny, but it is balanced out with a dark distopian theme along the way.

I was kind of wondering that too. If it went on for longer then maybe evenutally more of the nice things woudl go wrong or be taken away. Like a disaster destroys their favorite restaurant or even home, which they would blame themselves for and not the Good Place.

It was perfect torture. They apparently lived in paradise, but they never seemed to enjoy anything, they were always worrying about something. I loved it!

I agree. It's much better than having your flesh eaten he'll hounds or whatever. But people are right it was a slow mental torture for them. They are made to fall in love/care for these other people but are constantly hurting them. So as more and more time goes on the worse and worse it gets. It would eventually be like the day after a break up with someone you love, horrible amd emotional painful for the rest of eternity.

Remember, it lasts for eternity.
