We know about the 4 main characters and Michael, but now we have to rethink all the other characters we've been introduced to. It's hard to remember them all, but based on the finale *spoilers ahead!*...
What do we now know is the truth about each support character?
1. Sean... not a real judge? Just playing a part?
2. Adam Scott's character... is he also just playing a part or is he an architect? Who is he?
3. Janet... still Janet. Did they really kill her or was that part of the con?
4. Everyone was an actor meant to deceive them except the 4 main characters
5. The medium place people (both the people on the video and Mindy). Are they acting a part to torture Eleanor? Jason doesn't seemed to be tortured by anything in the medium place except for leaving it, so we know he loved it there
Yeah he outright stated it. Sean is Michael's boss, but he's not the adjudicator between the Good Place and Bad. He's pretty much this show's version of the devil (or at least a high up demon).
2. Adam Scott's character... is he also just playing a part or is he an architect? Who is he?
From all the evidence we've seen, he is who he seems to be. Namely the architect of another section of the Bad Place, another high up demon (pretty high up considering he appeared in Mindy's video). Its just he was clearly in on Michael's plan. Heck its probably going to turn out the two are drinking buddies or something, its just Trevor has no interest in subtly or psychological misery, he just enjoys making people miserable.
3. Janet... still Janet. Did they really kill her or was that part of the con?
No I'm pretty sure they did kill her. Killing her might have been part of Michael's plan though.
4. Everyone was an actor meant to deceive them except the 4 main characters
Indeed.
5. The medium place people (both the people on the video and Mindy). Are they acting a part to torture Eleanor? Jason doesn't seemed to be tortured by anything in the medium place except for leaving it, so we know he loved it there
Well considering it was Janet who took them there and mentioned it. And she wasn't in on Michael's con. And Michael said he didn't predict Jason falling in love with Janet. I think its safe to say that was real and not part of the plan. As such Michael and Sean had to improvise.
6. "Real Eleanor"... not real.
Yep, she's just a minor demon called Vicki.

- So since they were actually in the bad place, why was it not really bad? Trevor was wanting to torture them in what we thought was the bad place, but this bad place was more of a normal place. Got to do fun things, hang out and everything. So they annoyed each other a little, which is normal with friends.
- The medium place. So was it in the bad place? How would a train leave the bad place and be able to just go to one of the other places so easily and Michael not know (if he didn't).
- Still trying to figure out what the point of the bad place is? Mostly it's just a normal place like earth, with some benefits (like can have Janet give you ice cream). Is separating them really that bad of a thing. If Michael (and the other guy in charge) is Evil and wants to torture them, why let them do whatever in a place they think is the good place?
- If this place was all planned... Why is there a real Elenor? Was Elenor the only one supposed to realize she didn't belong there? What about the other 4, why no real ones of them (Jason being under the wrong name)?
To me, the ending makes a lot of thing make less sense if it was all known they weren't supposed to be in the good place.

You have to remember there is more than one version of the bad place.
The one we've been looking at is Michael's experimental new design. And the thing about it is, its designed to trick everyone into thinking there in the good place.
But really the whole place is designed to play off the four main characters fears and insecurities. As Eleanor summed up, she's trapped in a world of people who are better than her at everything, while constantly dealing with the fear of being kicked out and guilt of ruining it for everyone else.
Tahani is trapped somewhere where none of her efforts are able to impress anyone, and her fragile self-esteem gets repeated battered by her knowing she is the lowest person there with her unable to do anything about it.
Chidi has to constantly compromise his morals driving him into more mental strain and stress. And deal with the idea his life's work was a waste of time and at heart he was a huge failure.
Jason...well he had to pretend he was a wise monk. That's probably enough.
All the seemingly great things there are just to make things worse for them, as they all believe they should be enjoying there rewards but never get a chance to (I mean thinking back did any of them ever get to enjoy anything in the good place? Eleanor missed out on flying, Tahani's parties kept being failures, Chidi's fantasy left him trapped in the middle of a lake, Jason...well he did enjoy himself but that's mostly down to Michael not realising he would fall for Janet.)
- The medium place. So was it in the bad place? How would a train leave the bad place and be able to just go to one of the other places so easily and Michael not know (if he didn't).
No its pretty safe to say its a separate place. You have to remember its not a train in the physical sense. Its just a metaphor. They could have used a road, or a river, but a train works.
The idea is that it follows the routes between dimensions. The reason they could get out was cause they stole the train, and Janet could hack it to go where she wanted.

Well the point of the bad place is to make people there suffer, seemingly for the demons amusement.
Sure Michael's bad place isn't a hellhole, but that's cause he wanted to try pure psychological torture. The whole thing is an experiment, and a chance to give the demons some fun.
Why let them do whatever they want? That's just it, they can't. They think they can, but really the whole thing is set up so everything they do is being controlled.
For it to work the whole point is they have no idea they are being controlled.
- If this place was all planned... Why is there a real Elenor? Was Elenor the only one supposed to realize she didn't belong there? What about the other 4, why no real ones of them (Jason being under the wrong name)?
There isn't. Real Eleanor was just an invention, she's really a lower demon called Vicki.
They invented her cause no expected Eleanor to confess she didn't belong. So they had to improvise.
So they created a "real Eleanor" to make Eleanor feel more guilty and be more miserable.
Why there is no real one's for the others? Cause they didn't need it. They all could believe they belonged (or in Jason's case to stupid to care) so that when they were miserable they just got more miserable.

- Still seems weird/unlikely that someone in the bad place could leave (get to the medium place), without the Devil/Demon Leader knowing or being able to stop it.
- I know it's a different kind of "Bad place", but it still seems more like a normal place or how earth is. On earth people have to go to work, be around annoying people sometime, deal with things they don't want to, etc. And since they could do fun things, eat desserts, and other good things, it doesn't seem bad even if they are frustrated by certain things/people.
- Another thing... In the middle of the season (right before Tahani finds out about Jason), Trevor is trying to get her to go to The Bad place with him. She was going to, then decides "No, I'm not going". What was the point of that, if she is already in the Bad place? Would she have gone to his place where people get tortured?
BTW, I do really like this show (1st one finished on DVR this year), but that ending seems to make a lot of things not make sense (or at least to me).

Ah, but that's just it. They can't leave. Only Janet can take them out it, because she's the afterlife's operating system. As he admits, they never anticipated she would turn on them as she was also being duped.
As for them being unable to stop them. Well the trains seem to be part of the system of the afterlife as a whole, so they probably have no jurisdiction over them.

That's the beauty of the system it is like on earth. Its designed to, to lure them into a false sense of security.
Yes on earth you have to deal with that, but this is supposed to be paradise. They believe they don't have to here. All the while there bombarded by constant annoyances with no rest.
As for all the good things, well most of them they never got a chance to enjoy because other things kept dragging them away. The one's they did just gave them brief rest breaks between more misery.
Its like taking a starving man at a buffet, but making sure he doesn't eat without him realising you are.

Not quite, basically she didn't go because Michael stopped her.
At the time it looked like he was being the hero, now we know he and Trevor were in on it. He was always going to stop her, thus maintaining the illusion she is in the good place.
As Michael admitted everything went off script when Eleanor confessed to not belonging. So they had to adjust there plans to stop the illusion cracking.
Thus they introduce the idea of her vainly struggling for the good place, all he while having to deal with a better version of herself making her feel small every day.

I didn't see them enjoying anything. They were always worried about something.

I think it's clear he's Michael's "manager" and he's playing a part as the judge. There was never anything to judge. They were always meant to stay there.
2. Adam Scott's character... is he also just playing a part or is he an architect? Who is he?
I think he's also a demon in charge of a Bad Place like Michael, but he's playing a character since he's advertising himself as a demon from the real Bad Place who wants Eleanor to come with him.
3. Janet... still Janet. Did they really kill her or was that part of the con?
I think it's safe to say she is not "in on it." Michael made it clear that she's just an operating system he stole. If she were part of it, I think he would have mentioned it during his confession. But he said she's not part of the act.
Also, her love for Jason was a good thing for him. Michael would never have done that I think.
5. The medium place people (both the people on the video and Mindy). Are they acting a part to torture Eleanor? Jason doesn't seemed to be tortured by anything in the medium place except for leaving it, so we know he loved it there
It's up in the air right now, and I could easily see them going either way they want with it. (if it makes for a good story.)
But I believe the Medium Place was real since Janet was acting on her own accord when she took the group there.
6. "Real Eleanor"... not real.
Can't explain why, but she's the demon I hate the most right now!
