I could be wrong about this but I think I read that Lee Daniels came up with the idea of the show based on a fictional transformation of Lenny and his daughter Zoe's relationship. So in many ways he is probably playing a heightened version of himself.
shareHe's clearly a Prince like character so we may see him amp it up a bit more if anything. I mean Lenny is extra in his own style but this is more of a steroid version of the real Lenny
