Let me preface by saying I'm a big geek and a fan of everything related to sci-fi, space exploration, Mars, etc.

I tried to watch this show, I REALLY wanted to like it but it's unwatchable. It's like they tried really hard but nothing quite works.

The docu-drama is fine but it's the execution that falls flat.

The worst part is the acting, like Mars, they are all arid. After the end of the first episode I disliked them all. If I was stuck on a mission to Mars with these folks I'd probably jettison myself out of the airlock a fraction of the way through the trip.

I believe there was also a scene with TUMBLEWEEDS on Mars. WHAT.

Anyway I wish this was better because anything that gives more positive publicity towards space exploration and going to Mars is alright with me but this show is going to make people never want to leave the planet.

I agree. After "Europa Report", "Approaching the Unknown" and now this, it seems that someone tries to undermine support for space exploration by picturing it as a complete bore complete with gratuitous foreign accents.

I highly recommend "Apollo 13" to sober up. It had absolutely no LED strips inside the helmets - THE most important sign of seriousness in space operas.

I liked Europa Report, it didn't have the flare of Matt Damon but it was good. Apollo 13 is historical though so why would there be LED strip helmets? Makes no sense.

Are you sure the tumbleweeds weren't part of a scene of Ben's flashback? He was with his dad in an Earth desert for their solar system model experiment.

It wasn't part of that scene. It might have been one of the commercials, they were in spacesuits and there was TUMBLEWEEDS.

Well, if it was a scene from a commercial, we can give it a bit more leniency. Perhaps when they were producing the ad, they used an older take, and then after the ad was "printed" (finalized), someone finally noticed the mistake, and they fixed it for the episode. This is just my speculation, though.

Great idea. The melding of current science/comments with a story in the future should work....

but it didn't...

The acting is terrible and the dialogue is corny. I've never heard any professional such as an airline pilot, soldier or astronaut, be so melodramatic. When was the last time you heard anyone in Mission Control have to ask anyone on board the 2016 International Space Station a question twice? The 2033 Mission Control seems like a pretty moody gang too. Highly trained crewmembers or technicians would never talk like that.. or take forever to respond to simple questions. Just listen to the real NASA technicians and engineers in 2017. Suddenly in 2033 they all respond and behave like a soap opera. Oh, and a serious medical issue is concealed from the rest of the crew by the highly-trained mission commander? C'mon!

Glad they made it down but I think I'll pass on the rest of the series.

I had the exact same feeling...

"Mars" would've been decent & enjoyable were it not for the overly dramatic acting and unbearable dialogue... Honestly, that kinda ruined the whole series for me.

Especially the Asian twin pilot character (no offense, but why would she speak like she was "whispering" all the time).

With the storyline there was enough drama and suspense already, I don't understand why they couldn't just rely on that.

That being said, I actually liked the concept of mixing drama/fiction. I hope the second season will be better, if there is one.

I agree. The docu-drama on Mars is just okay, but the Green Propaganda in between segments was driving me nuts!
But I finally came up with a solution. Since I DVR the series, I merely fast forward through the boring Green Propaganda!

Yes I enjoyed season 1 but this one looks it's been funded by Greenpeace. Not sure if I'll keep watching it.

I completely agree and came here to start a thread on that if no one else had the same view.

Not only am I tired of the non-subtle head-bashing "we're destroying the Earth so let's not destroy Mars" bullcrap that I fast-forward through, but it seems that I'm hitting that FF button more and more...so that there is less and less actual Mars story being presented.

Thank goodness for the DVR and the FF, and the "we're destroying Earth so let's not destroy Mars" bullshit
is not subtle at all. They hit us over the head with it constantly, as if with a blunt instrument. It makes me angry.

Curiosity and a love of Sci-Fi (even politically polluted Sci-Fi) are the only reasons I'm still watching. I'm also on the lookout for errors that I can throw in the Libtards' faces!

The show is all about real-world conflicts and perspectives that will arise if, and when, we do actually touchdown on Mars. The issues that it raises are absolutely things that are going to come up.

Then just put the conflicts and perspectives into the script and drama...you don't have to keep beating the audience over the head about horrible humans are.
