Much ado about nothing

thankfully its relatively short.

Its way overrated. Id give it a B- at best.

It has all the right politics though: anti-Reagan, gay rights, abortion rights,... and its a movie about a female coming of age by a female writer/director. I think that explains the critical raves and the Oscar talk.

If people don't know yet that critics grade on a curve for a movie with the correct (liberal) politics then they aren't paying attention. Its become so obvious now (Ghostbusters, Get Out, Last Jedi....) that it cannot be denied.

Critics do the inner circlejerk routine, if nothing else when they hail a movie with the maximum praise it's always a sign for me to approach with caution and keep expectations restrained. Fortunately i was prepared for Lady Bird.

I saw this late last night with a few friends. I must say that we are all a little disappointed. These types of independent films irritate me. They lack an actual story and plot and it's just a "coming-of-age" tale. The main character is usually weird and misunderstood even thought they completely hate everyone around them. Films like this rely on quirkiness and warm-heartedness (if that's a word) without daring to be different. Literally this movie is just a bunch of scenes with random stuff happening and not much else.

I was thinking throughout the movie - why don't these people just talk to one another ???

Yeah, nothing special. It was ok. 6/10. It was a bit disjointed. Too much like other movies. Nothing groundbreaking. Some of the funnier bits were trying too hard (or maybe just given away by the trailer). Glad it was only 90 min. I had little interest in the movie and the title sucked, but wanted to give Gerwig a chance. I did like her in Greenberg (underrated movie).

2 out of 10 from me hownos. Critics tho, they do the circlejerk routine, they blatantly conform, or maybe they are doing PR/sucking up. How is this atrocity hailed as one of 2017s best movies? Outrageous...
