Is an Oscar a sure thing for Saoirse for this movie? She's one of the best actress working today and she definitely deserve to win for this movie.
shareI think she will definitely get nominated but actress is pretty competitive this year. Frances McDormand, Sally Hawkins and Meryl Streep are all strong contenders this year, so I don't think Saoirse will win this year.

shareThe Oscar is never a sure thing. That said, with all the acclaim “Lady Bird” is getting (it is the best-rated film on Rotten Tomatoes) and Saoirse having been nominated more than once since she was 13, her chances I’m willing to say that her chances are as good as anyone. I won’t bet on it, but one never knows.
And I’ve heard great things about Sally Hawkins in “The Shape of Water” (one of my most anticipated films), but Saoirse would deserve it.

She's going up against people like Frances McDormand and Meryll Streep this year so it's really any one's guess. I hear this is the most competitive year for Best Actress award in a while so it will be interesting to see who emerges in the lead.
