Brilliant!

This Flick speaks truth! At the end of the day it's more important what God thinks rather than what people think. Every human is going to stand before The Most High at the time of judgement whether they believe or not, no one is going to stand in front of a person, we'll all stand before The Lord, what HE says and thinks is what is important.

reply

Glad to see Christians taking back their message board.

reply

Respect! Remember that 70% of IMDb users just love to complain, even on non-Christian movies, they'll go and comment on a movie that they hate, why go on that message board if you don't even like the movie? Their logic is flawed.

reply

Yes. The atheists are dwelling here for some reason. I wonder why? I was on the faith and spirituality board and they don't seem to talk about religion there all that much. But coming back here I'm truly amazed at the venom and snark from the militant atheists. I cannot understand how, if you are an atheist, and you don't believe in a New Heaven and a New Earth, and you think you will just die one day and disappear, that you would spend your precious moments heckling Christians.

If I felt my life was short and meaningless like an atheist, I would spend it accomplishing something. As it turns out, I think (hope and believe ī€¹) my life after my death in this life, will be eternal, yet I spend my time accomplishing tons. Rescuing animals, helping children and their persecuted parents, seeking knowledge, etc.

Hope you are well Kurt. Hope you had a wonderful Christmas!

I think you'll find that your good buddy kurt is the most resolutely committed non-Christian, and fully opposed to Christianity as well for he does not advocate such a thing. He is also the most active member of this board. If Christian's are 'taking back' their board then they're taking it back from non-Christians such as kurt who, by his own own arsed understanding of it, is the most 'militant' poster here.

I don't support the mega churches that're only interested in money. That was my main point. And I'm not sure that I earned the right to call myself a Christian. But I still go to church and believe in God.

And I don't understand how you've chosen Jehovah over the great Cthulhu, but that's your choice and your mistake to spend eternity regretting. Maybe of you're lucky Odin will come to your rescue.

I personally believe that God will come to the rescue. [As described in the Bible.]

reply

I've got that poster on ignore. My theory is, why come here for abuse? I'd rather just converse with people who are civil and interesting.

Alot of these atheist folks completely misread the Bible, in my opinion. Obviously, as the veil is over them. They would not have the Holy Spirit to help them get it if they keep rejecting it...they seem to keep focusing on ONE passage that Jesus preached, which was the one about loving your enemies, and use it to stab at Christians. They don't even believe what Jesus taught and are just trying to capitalize on what they consider a weakness of kindness. Truly pathetic humans do that.

But, the truth is, the Bible is pretty violent, especially where God chooses his chosen Jews to win over their enemies. He clearly wants certain views to win out and that view is codified in Commandment 1.

And the Bible is very clear on being resolute in choosing God over everyone and everything else. Which means, if atheists insult your God, you can choose to be nice to atheists (and win their approval) ī€© and turn your back on God, or vehemently defend your God and insult atheists. ī§

Personally, I am not worried about the feelings of atheists who continually go to war with my beloved God. And I know you love God and therefore you have no duty to please ANY mortal man, Kurt. Please God. Not man. Defend God. Not man at war with God. Simple easy choice. I'm with you on that.

And I agree with you on the mega church thing too.

That and...

Personally, I am not worried about the feelings of atheists

...this sentence could have stopped right like this and it would apply perfectly.

reply

The reason why Lena is the one and only fundamentalist Christian that kurt likes.

That and..

I guess that I wouldn't characterize Lena as a fundamentalist, but that's up to her to define herself.

If I may be allowed to name a fundamentalist that I do like as an example:

Senator Jeff Flake is an American politician and member of the Republican Party who has served as the Junior United States Senator from Arizona since 2013. Wikipedia
Born: December 31, 1962 (age 53), Snowflake, AZ
Office: Senator (R-AZ) since 2013
Spouse: Cheryl Flake (m. 1985)
Education: Brigham Young University
Previous offices: Representative, AZ 6th District (2003-2013), Representative, AZ 1st District (2001-2003)

reply

I only know two things about Flake - he flip-flopped over extending background checks for guns and he doesn't like Trump. Out of interest, what is it you like about him?

reply

he doesn't like Trump

reply

Ha, good a reason as any I suppose. Unlike a lot of Republicans who didn't like Trump in the lead up to the election, Flake never endorsed him either did he? I don't remember hearing he did a Paul Ryan.

reply

I guess that I wouldn't characterize Lena as a fundamentalist, but that's up to her to define herself.

Until you cease calling atheists 'militant' you can give up with the belief that it's up to Christians to define themselves. If as a non-atheist you can call all, and it does seem like you do it to all, atheists 'militant', then she is a bona fide fundamentalist regardless of how she may or may not define herself. There isn't one rule for Christians and one for non believers, no matter how much you'd like there to be.

reply

You seem a bit militant this week.

Fortunately kurt, you've made it clear that it's not for anyone else to define me but myself, so what you think is meaningless. And until you actually provide a proper definition for what makes someone militant, other than not capitalising words which doesn't apply and has been your only reasons for incorrectly calling people militant so far, you might as well accept that neither I nor any other regular on here is militant.

Coal in your sock from Santa?

Don't be silly, Santa actually is all loving.

reply

One clear sign of militancy is when someone refers to an entire class of people as "scum", as Kurt often refers to Atheists. Have any of the non-believers here ever referred to Christians as "scum"? I know I never have, and never would.

reply

Because of your non-abrasive comments on IMDb you believe you've earned a less contemptuous title than scum?

reply

I already posted dictionary definitions for you in the past cosmo.

reply

Here's a definition for you:

Militant atheism, also known as: "at all making the case for atheism and/or antitheism in a frank but unapologetic manner", is a derogatory neologism called upon against any and all nonbelievers who won't just shut up about it (and is, as a result, a snarl word primarily directed against vocal New Atheists).

The term describes any given atheist or secularist who dares profess their own views against religion or against religious influence in public life or government ruling within earshot of a religious person who has grown accustomed to never having their views challenged. The term thus denotes the enormous social faux pas one commits by not simply giving in arbitrarily to religious bullying

reply

You are wasting your time defining things for someone when the term is only ever used as a swearword.

I'm well aware that railing does no good kurt2000

reply

I had no delusions of convincing him, I just figured it worthwhile to post a more accurate explanation of the term.

reply

You are, in fact, an atheist.

You do meet the definition of the word 'militant', which isn't automatically an act of violence waiting to happen.

The new 'militant atheist' term by definition is acceptable to mainstream society.

reply

You are, in fact, an atheist

wow, you think?

You do meet the definition of the word 'militant', which isn't automatically an act of violence waiting to happen.

Get a new tune kurt, lol. I do not favour violently confrontational methods. Nor do I think religion is pernicious. Instead, as always noted this is just the sort of thing a fundamentalist would say to dismiss anyone with trenchant views about belief.

I'm well aware that railing does no good kurt2000

In your case 'militant' is when you spend time creating a self-styled definition simply to express contempt.

Which is also not the definition, which you have now shifted into a new insult, so: QED.

And 'militant' is not the same as 'militant atheist' - a precise combination which is distinguished by the characteristics already mentioned, as has been pointed out to you several times before. Nobody here is suggesting the violent overthrow of religion.

I can see the new year will bring the same old kurt, still astride the same hobby horses lol

The word militant is the portion of the term you're having a hissy fit over again.

Nobody here is suggesting the violent overthrow of religion.

Nor did I suggest you or your ilk are capable of a violent overthrow of anything.

Again, you're attempting to force your own self-styled definition of a term that isn't that complicated.

Which simply supports my assessment that your militant attitude is nothing more than a tiresome protest over jargon and religion that you have no legit control over.

But this is the same guy that refuses to type the word Christians, and insists on Xians. Yet another tiresome militant attitude. Same FilmFlaneur, somehow believing that rehashing these arguments into 2017 with Kurt will change the results.

I need to know if this film is worth watching:

The Autopsy of Jane Doe

Have you seen it?

Almost 7 stars. Horror fans claim it's good.

And what did you rate this film below?

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0059229/?ref_=nv_sr_1

reply

I actually saw Jane Doe just recently, a film which ends up playing with another 'haunted house' trope. I thought it was entertaining, more strong at the start, but then got a little silly towards the end. Brian Cox makes the most of a plot which places a lot of dialogue with him while he excavates a body cavity. So: worth a look, but probably not a keeper.

If you haven't seen it already, I would recommend the recent Lights Out , http://www.imdb.com/title/tt4786282/combined which, although still no masterpiece, I still found satisfying. Just keep the lights on.

I haven't seen the Fellini you mention, although I have it on my hard drive. Some really rate it.

Humanity, those that speak English at least, use that to define militant. Not militant atheists. But let's play it your way and look at what you posted and see if the shoe fits:

combative

Nope.

and aggressive

Nope.

in support of a political or social cause

A cause of some sort? Perhaps, but it's hardly specific.

and typically favoring extreme, violent, or confrontational methods.

Nope.

So even in a charitable sense, it's not really very accurate.

reply

Well, lol ī€¦ deviates, I'm human, not a robot sweetie. I think you may misunderstand the whole concept of "judgment" from the Bible. Everyone judges everyone else all day long. That's what humans do.

The Bible is referring to ultimate judgment being within the exclusive domain of God. Just because I believe these folks are not being productive in life, does not mean I purport to step into the role of our savior who decides at the end of time whether they go to the New Earth or get pitched into the lake of fire. None of us humans know for sure. Although the Bible does tell us the one unforgivable sin is rejection of the Holy Spirit and the murderers, idolaters, liars etc will go in to the fire.

But, again, some atheists misunderstand the duty of a Christian to stand there and take abuse. Jesus said in Luke 9:5 after his apostles were rebuffed in a town and were upset...

If people do not welcome you, leave their town and shake the dust off your feet as a testimony against them.
Those are pretty harsh words. Jesus is basically telling his apostles to abandon folks who scoff at the word and leave them in the dust as "testimony" against them.

Again, we as Christians love our God. We have no duty to not be judgmental and prove ANYTHING to scoffers or those at war with God. Our duty is to worship and glorify God. I have no duty to force myself to be nonjudgmental of you or others who mock my beloved God just to curry favor with you. Who are you?
