Phenomenal show!
I'm so glad Netflix recommended this series to me and I'm glad I gave it a shot. I loved every second of it. I was hooked after the first 5 mins and I thought the last 4 episodes were exceptionally good. This is the first series I have watched with subtitles and I thought they would bug me, but after the first few minutes I didn't even notice them.
The series is not without its flaws, but for the most part I feel like it didn't have as many plot holes as shows like this normally do. I was impressed with how well they explained pretty much everything, except how Ines knew Drummer was going to the cabin? Did she just happen to be there when he showed up? And why did Kevin confess the killing Driss? He wasn't the one who hit him with the shovel and tried to kill him, so why was he covering for that perv Markus? It was kinda weird. But other than that, I was impressed how they managed to wrap everything up so neatly. I like that the main focus was Driss's case and that the show didn't get overly side tracked with the match fixing and the psycho Albanian guy. I'm glad he got caught and that Ivo got some justice as well.
The acting was exceptional and the characters were real and relatable. I love that Peeters wasn't a super cop. He, along with everyone else, made mistakes and he had his issues, but he was a good cop. Driss never would have gotten justice if he hadn't stepped in. Makes me wonder how many other "suicides" were just written off?
The first episode was incredible and it really set the tone for the series right off the bat. I feel like episodes 3-6 kinda dragged a bit mainly because you know it's all just red herrings, but the last 5 episodes really took off for me. I couldn't stop watching. As any series like this, there are always twists and turns and I thought the twists in this show were very well done. Thinking back on the first episode I never would have guessed it was going to end the way it did..although I have to say I called it halfway through that it was going to be Ines. I didn't buy her "Driss was in love with me" speil. I also thought it was strange how involved she was in the case at the beginning. Something about her didn't sit right with me.
I am still bummed about Drummer though. Even though it turned out he had some weird issues, I still liked him. I think he was honestly trying to move past his obsession by starting a relationship with Marjo. Poor Drummer certainly didn't deserve to go out that way because of it. If only he hadn't gone rogue and let his resentment interfere with his partnership with Peeters, then he most likely would still be alive. I think Peeters would have been a good influence on him. He could have been a big brother figure to him
Excellent show, I hope more people check it out. I don't know anyone else who has seen it, so I have no one to talk to about it. I've been recommending it to anyone I know who like a good small town murder mystery miniseries, but I don't anyone who's actually watched it yet.
