Rob Zombie is one of the greatest directors today

At times he was good, but other times he looked happy when he was supposed to be terrified. I guess there's only so many times a director wants to go through that with a kid.

Normally, a lot of consideration goes into casting significant roles in a movie.
I dont know how common it is to have a situation where the director regrets the choices he/she made.
I am not quick to criticize some of these performances for the following reasons.
I have seen countless threads like this one. Nearly all movies that cast children has at least one such thread.
One thing *I* do if and when I buy or watch the dvd/bluray release, is watch the special features and listen to the commentary if there is one. I have found MANY where there were threads criticizing a child actor yet the director and other cast members have made special mention of the childs excellence in the role. So maybe we should reexamine how the character was supposed to play out.
Particularly in the digital age, it is far easier to redo certain parts if the look or mood seems "wrong". The director is the one who makes such decisions. IF they dont object or say anything, the kid or any actor may not see where their performance is just "off" in a given part.
Hundreds upon hundreds of kids want to get into acting, many unfortunately are pressured by parents. Generally the ones who make the grade have the abilities to do decent acting jobs and take direction. Some may not be suited for certain roles or situations but THIS is why hundreds of kids try out for a given role and it is narrowed down to the best choice.
There ARE exceptions that have existed and DO exist where particular Hollywood "influences" get a particular kid cast. I dont see any reason to think this is one of them. I wondered initially if this kid was related to Jason Bateman but there is no obvious connection.
Anyway I have taken up enough time on the subject.
Some people just dont seem to like kids. I hope at least that they love their own kids and raise them to be decent people.

Agree with you. Her little brother unfortunately didn't do a god job at acting. But I didn't mind it much because other times he was good & I was too invested in the story, so all good at the end.
