3/10. Where are horror movies on the level of The Shining?

Hell no. Babadook was one of the most annoying movies. All that screaming and ridiculousness. The goofy creature?
shareThe Babadook, like It Follows, was all hype and nothing else.
shareI agree. It's hard to make a good "scary" movie. You have to pace out your content so that it fits over an hour. That takes skill. A good horror movie, in my opinion, is one that you actually remember - not because of how bad it is.
The best kind of horror movie is the one that actually follows you and affect you in real life. Those are very rare and you might have to be a kid/teenager for that to happen? For example it reminds me of a prank I saw in some Asian video years ago. Where they put a long dark haired girl inside of an elevator. I honestly have no idea how I would have reacted by that - assuming the setting was great, ie late evening, shady looking area and what not.
Imagine walking down the hallway in a hotel and the lights flicker and for a brief moment you see two spooky looking girls. I can only speak for myself and how some horror movie affected me more than others. I think it's just a lot harder to create such an impression on a person when they're older - because they've already seen it before.
It really wasn't anything like The Babadook.. And was way, WAY less annoying.
shareSorry but no the Babadook is a garbage psychological drama and this was a horror which are all filled with awful child actors
shareI didn't find it anywhere near as bad as "Babadook", but I did find it to have some striking similarities to "Darkness Falls" (which I liked). I liked "Lights Out" overall, but it did feel a bit too much like "DF"
shareWhere are horror movies on the level of The Shining?Probably because Stanley Kubrick is no longer adapting Stephen King novels to the screen. But you do make a good point and this one is seriously over-rated IMO. 🐭 share
I enjoyed both Babadook and Lights Out.
Both were decent horror movies.
You need to remember that there will commonly be similar elements, used by movies, especially in the same genre.
I liked the first 20 minutes of Light's Out. It paled a lot as the movie progressed.
What a great first 20 minutes though!
At the state of horror at the moment, I'll take even 20 minutes :D
It was a decent enough movie, and I enjoyed Maria Bello.
I enjoyed it overall, just those first 20 minutes were really, really great. I wish it had kept that tone.
I think horror is undergoing a renewal and that will hopefully make for better movies for both you and I to enjoy in the future.
