"The Promise" voting manipulations through 'Social Bots'
I read today a fascinating, well-researched article, that said:
The Turkish secret service uses SOCIAL BOTS to influence social media.
By order of Erdogan, who often sued Twitter users in the past...
See for example:

What is a 'bot' ?

The use of Social Bots has become a serious problem on Facebook, Twitter
and other forums where people interact in a political way.
For example:
About 30 % of Donald Trump's "Twitter fans" are Social Bots, not real people.
They create a false representation of the 'public opinion'.

The article didn't name IMDB, but this seems to be the only plausible
explanation for what we've seen with "The Promise".
The 1/10 votes were mostly the result of social bots.
The real Turkish citizens don't know about this movie & don't care.
What we've seen here on IMDB is the same abuse that happened until now
mostly on Twitter and Facebook.
Can IMDB do something against it ?
They probably could make it more difficult by integrating
something like a random 'security question' that every user
needs to answer when he logs in.
I think that's probably a good idea, because this
kind of state-sponsored, clandestine manipulation
of public discourse (and movies are nothing else)
is a serious threat to democracy.
This is not only about 'good or bad' movies.
This is about the manipulation of the masses.
It's politics.
There should be more awareness for this problem.
"The Promise" was not the only victim of these targeted down-votings:
