"From visionary director" WTF? Is this a joke?

Since when is Gore Verbinsky considered a visionary? Check out his track record, this guy is as mundane as they come.

The man directed Mousehunt and The Ring, he should be cherished despite his major studio hackjobs! Rango was pretty good too, and the first Pirates.

Also marketing slogan.

The first Pirates was quite a spectacle to be seen in theaters back then, visually I feel it was ahead of its time, a very large scale, scenic movie, in what felt like a new "HD" cinema style appearing around the early 2000s, probably due to better camera and film technology, also CGI around the time. Films like The Matrix trilogy and this, which had a shiny new look, would never have been possible 5 years earlier.
But I will say this new film of his again looks fresh and new, has a unique and clear vision and style to it, which most films cant touch. This is probably my most eagerly anticipated film of 2017 so far. Another is American Pastoral, it also has an amazing trailer in my opinion.

"Visionary" is very subjective, try not to lose sleep over it.

They seem to use that term whenever they mention a director's name in an ad. Must be a DGA thing.

The problem with Verbinski is that the visuals and cinematography look very nice, but it kinda makes you feel like you're watching an extended car commercial. Same with David Fincher, although his movies generally have more substance.

The Shroud of the Disney has fallen. Begun the Jar Jar Abrahams Wars have.

the ring is pretty good. seems it suffered more from a bad script and the boredom of making a remake but it looks great and good acting by the female lead naomi watts

He is a visionary. Nobody makes films that look like his nor on the scale he does. If you don't like it, fine. But to deny his craft is immature and pathetic.

Mundane? I loved Mousehunt and Rango, and his Pirates of the Caribbean movies were visionary. How does anyone make a multi-million dollar blockbuster movie franchise based on a theme park ride?
