Are there any Kiwis here who know where the opening flyover shots were taken?

I've been around a lot of the North Island but I've never seen such spectacular bush landscapes.

Film was principally shot in the Coromandel Peninsula area according to Sam Neil, at a Q & A I attended.

I recognised Lake Wainamu near Bethells beach a West Auckland, huge crazy black sand dunes and a good swimable lake.

Yeah, part was filmed in the Waitakere Ranges - one of the huts was definitely the ATC hut and lake Wainamu featured too.

filmed in auckland, coromandel & central plateau, the opening scenes are coromandel.
