Any thoughts?
Me: I had a hard time watching this one because I "hated" Ted Kennedy when he killed Mary Jo, so reliving that brought up that disgust again. And to think he got off basically Scott free. Disgusting!
So many other disturbing moments in this episode. Yikes!
I saw the first mini series through my library and am waiting the release of the second on DVD. Certainly the family had problems.
Ted's autobiography---and Patrick's made it clear he was not at all perfect. He did lots of things personally which caused problems. Wealth does not make one infallible.
On one hand, it was a nice fairytale to believe the Camelot myth, but like all mega wealthy political families, the Kennedy's were flawed. Ted Kennedy had all the negative traits of all Kennedy men--womanizers, substance abusers, elitists, power hungry, morally corrupt in many ways. Yet, they also had redeeming qualities as well, not the least of which is that they all were charismatic, articulate, handsome and charming, able to deliver speeches with power and connect to an audience.

Got around to seeing the second. Disappointed in the screen play. Ted Kennedy wasn't perfect.
But the screenplay did not sufficiently acknowledge that he was the Senate sponsor for very important laws which enabled people with disabilities to legally attend public school--and receive free appropriate public education (special ed) or the Americans with Disabilities Act. He was behind the Freedom of Access to Clinics Act and Civil Rights Restoration Act. No mention of him remarrying at all.
He wasn't perfect. he was a human.
And for some weird reason, the screen play showed Jackie and Ari making out--rather than JFK running around central park shirtless. How many "other" kids get chewed out by their parents for bad grades in a screen play?? Boring!! Nothing about him running George.
The first movie was balanced. But this was subpar. I am not going to buy the series.
