The ending [spoilers]

Not exactly sure, but it seemed as though his dad and his bosses got taken for a ride, and the whole money thing was in the end a total bust.

Whoever the guy was who was supposed to funnel the money to the people to be paid off didn't do it...or the wrong guy picked up the money in the park in the satchel.

Either way, now it seems his whole mission that his dad put him through was for nothing. And all the collateral damage he did trying to finish the mission was for nothing--the poor Asian interviewee, the dead Portuguese man, injuring his co-worker in the leg to get rid of him on the mission, etc.

I began to wonder if the whole thing by his dad was a COMPLETE ruse in order for his dad perhaps to steal that 500 million in Euros. He knew his son was damaged and maybe sent him there to do his dirty work, and maybe that guy who picked up the money was sent by his dad and that money is now in his dad's name in a Swiss bank account.

The dad seems to be up to something--he does not come off entirely "clean," if you know what I mean.

Dad seems to be using both his sons for nefarious schemes, like they are his loyal puppets.

So, I'd like to see more of this to see if the early impressions are correct.

If you rewatch the ending now, it is more clear. They added a couple scenes. He gave the bag to the guy he was supposed to, but that guy was actually working for the cleric and they believe he is now going to give the money to a physicist. John has to go back and recover the money before then.
