Since when is "Oscar bait" and "place it's set in" a cliche?

You know, I'm tired of so many movies, so many humans are in them, that's so cliche. Why don't they cast some aliens instead of putting humans in costumes or just creating CGI aliens?

Just do something fresh for God's sake!!! Modern movies are so stale for the most part. This turkey comes along set in New York and Will Smith is a (get this) Ad Executive. Who the **** relates to that city and occupation in the real world?!? Why the hell does Hollywood beat them to death?

People who have that job occupation or a similar one and a lot of people who do live in that city?

Besides, what kind of sense does that make? Do I have to have the same job as the characters in the movie or live in the same city as them in order to relate to them?

Do I need to travel to different cities and get different jobs every time I want to watch a movie so I can enjoy it properly?
