The Semi-Annual Will Smith Oscar Bait Sapfest
Is this a genre unto itself by now? When I saw the preview for this I just about gagged, it looked so contrived, mawkish and by-committee "inspirational." I mean, we've already had "Pursuit of Happyness," "Seven Pounds" and "Concussion." Hard to think of another major star whose idea of "good" movies (as opposed to the popcorn sci-fi/fantasy epics he does to maintain box-office standing) is so narrow, and so bad. It's almost like he viewed his "The Legend of Bagger Vance" as a formative model of prestige filmmaking to be imitated forever, rather than as the personal embarrassment everyone else sees it as.
