Why are they releasing this the same weekend as Rogue One?

The only thing I can think is that it's that bad they want to sweep it under the carpet and hope not too many people notice. They can't possibly hope to compete with Rogue One, even with Will Smith.

And the title is terrible. Collateral Beauty is like Collateral Damage meets Fatal Beauty. I often criticise indie film-makers I know for picking awful uninteresting titles, but this takes the biscuit.

counterprogramming. believe it or not there are people who aren't into star wars. less people, sure. but probably enough to turn a profit. maybe.

reply

I agree with the notion of counter-programming and I encourage it, but I don't think that's what this is.

Have you read any reviews of this film? It has a plot that is not what is represented by the trailer, and it's a weird plot that doesn't entirely make sense.

I'd watch this over Star Wars

No, id go with OP. It sucks, and they know it sucks, and they just have to release it before the end of the year to get rid of it pretty much, and to appease the once useful (for ticket sales) Will Smith...as Will Smith forced his way into another movie, and ruined it for everyone else lol...Will...just stop. Your not good at serious acting. When other people drop out after your force your way onto a film, that should tell you something.

Good point actually. Will Smith does push himself into films that aren't appropriate for him and I imagine the studio executives encourage that idea. They still have this idea that putting 'Will Smith' on the poster will sell it. That's no longer necessarily the case - more for the number of turkeys he's been in than anything.

Because when it fails miserably as it deserves, WB can blame Rogue One competition.

reply

Good point. That's something I didn't think of.

Rogue One is for teenage fanboys, Collateral Beauty is aimed at adults looking for something profound.

Not that it delivers it, but you get the idea.

"Yeah, well, that's just, like, your opinion, man..."
