OMG Is this true? Is this really what happens in the movie? SPOILERS!!!!

When I read this review, I laughed out loud. Oh my soul, who thought this would be a good idea for a "feel good" movie experience? This is as misguided as Me Before You.

"...Smith spends a lot of Collateral Beauty’s first act in the background while Whit, Claire, and Simon engineer a scheme that is misguided at best and morally repulsive at worst. Fearful for their jobs and financial futures, they hire a group of actors from a nearby theater company to portray Howard’s three abstract concepts — Love, Time, and Death — and interact with him in public places. They plan to film him talking to these actors (played by Keira Knightley, Jacob Lattimore, and Helen Mirren, respectively), then digitally erase them from the footage so it looks like Howard’s talking to himself, then present that as evidence at a board meeting. That should get Howard deemed mentally incompetent and enable the other partners to sell the business out from under him."

Whatever you are, be a good one.

Yup, this is the actual plot of the movie. I am amazed at how misguiding the trailers were.

reply

I thought it just look overly schmaltzy at best...but WOWWWWWWWWWWW did it manage to go beneath even my lowest expectations.

You were shooting for an Oscar, but now it looks like you just locked up a Razzie instead. Good job, Will. 10/10 career moves. Even #OscarsSoWhite can't save you now 

What's wrong with Me Before You? If you read anything about it, or you know, read the f'ing book before seeing the movie, you know it's a tragedy. So don't drag it down with this trainwreck of a movie.

reply

Agree. If you think Me Before You was misleading you know *beep* about it. Read the book.

reply

it did happen, but it doesn't matter that much if you count the 2 twists in the film

reply

WHAT ARE THE TWO TWISTS THAT I KEEP HEARING ABOUT???

One review mentioned them as well and I'd love to know if they're as bad as everything else I've heard about the film.

read it if you want to
The characters of Will Smith and Naomie Harris turns out to be a divorced couple. Smith's character leaves her a letter about being a stranger to each other after their daughter died. eventually, they end up in love again at the end. The last twist? those "hired actors" are actually Death, Time and Love. it can be seen clearly when "the couple" are looking up at the bridge around the end. Death is also with Harris's character in a hospital flashback scene when she's losing her daughter.

Wow...

I gotta say this kind of makes me want to see the movie ironically (but not actually pay to see it in theaters).

I when I first heard about the movie, I was initially just annoyed by the idiotic title. Then I kept seeing the trailer on Youtube and came to hate it extra because of how shamelessly oscar-batey it looked. It looked like one of those super-Hollywood films that tries desperately to be profound by creating a shamelessly manipulative story.

I expected it to be terrible but I didn't expect it to be the kind of hilariously bad film that you watch just so you can verify that a studio actually sunk money into such an awful script.

when this script was making the rounds, i remember the concept being about taking down the boss of a company or something. then i saw the trailers and wondered what the hell was going on. i imagine there is gonna be tons of whining about this one.
