The movie is awful and cliche, full of campiness and ridiculous, awful dialogue, but it does have some good acting from its cast. Will Smith in particular gives a stellar performance and is very effective in his emotional scenes. Kate Winslet comes across very sympathetic and kind. Naomie Harris is fantastic.
I probably won't see this movie, unless it's available on Amazon Prime or Netflix streaming, but I have to say that the title offends me for some reason. Maybe it's because the film trailer promotes this movie as a message about love and redemption but the title insinuates that it can only be attained through a purchase or realized based on someone else's valuation.
The term collateral literally means an asset of value only given out on loan with interest to repay. Why would you assign this to a movie about people seeking love and understanding, unless this movie is a sales pitch for Scientology which does require a purchase/membership fee.
"Collateral" is bad choice of words to use with regards to beauty and in this case we're dealing with a story about finding love after losing it. At least, that's what the trailer tells me it's about, but based on others' feedback here it seems to fall short, BIG TIME either way.
The film isn't about finding love after losing it. The trailer clearly states it's about "connections". Seeing the beauty around oneself after a tragedy. Not taking for granted that additional "collateral" beauty. Life takes us on a journey and an different pathway can be the result of that life event.
It's better than expected.
