Will Smith makes the worst career choices I've ever seen an actor make

This is the same guy who turned down Django Unchained to do AFTER EARTH, and turned down the Matrix to do WILD WILD WEST. To save face he just does terrible Oscar bait movies like Seven Pounds, Concussion and now this crap.

Will Smith hasn't made a good movie in TEN YEARS, his last one being Pursuit of Happyness.

reply

With Django Will Snith was worried about his image and doing an hard R movie that is spewing the N-Word almost every other sentence.
Definitely should have done the Matrix over the Wild Wild West.

Warner Bros./DC getting it wrong since 1992

reply

The main reason he didn´t do Django was because his character didn´t kill the bad guy. He is an egomaniac.

reply

That wasn't why he turned down Django Unchained. He turned it down because he "wanted to be the lead role," which is ridiculous because he's literally the title character of he movie! It was purely his ego that prevented him from doing what would've been the best film of his entire career.

reply

“I was like, ‘No, Quentin, please, I need to kill the bad guy!'” Will Smith http://ew.com/article/2013/03/25/will-smith-django-unchained/

reply

His words. He also felt it should've been "love story" and not a "vengeance" story. Especially if it was going to be about African Americans. He did compliment the script.

Twice Oscar nominated. The 1st Hip Hop artists to win a Grammy with additional others. Household name via hit TV show at the age of 19. Networth $250 mil. Gee, he really screwed up his career.

Everyone sucked in Wild Wild West. He wasn't right for The Matrix or Django, they where both cast correctly.

After Earth was bad, granted lol I only made it through like 20 minutes.

reply

And where is Keanu Reeves now? The last two Matrix films sucked by the way.

reply

John Wick 2 is going to do better than any of Smith's recent non-superhero movies.

reply

You need to review within the same time period yhe careers of:

Clooney
Bradley Cooper
Keanu
Johnny Depp
Eddie Murphy

Will has established a high bar. His "bombs" show up. Whilst the others are looked over because of their high volume.

reply

You're correct. Johnny Depp and Clooney last movie bombed also. Smith is being harshly judge.

reply

John Wick 2 is not making more than Suicide squad.

And lets compare John Wick to Will's recent films. It's not even close.

Keanu has been washed up for years.

reply

I'm not comparing John Wick even though it cost a cheap $20 make. I'm talking movies within the last few years. Stack them up against Smith's, recent efforts over the same time period and it's not as bad as some say it is. It seems to be a double standard. For example. Cooper put out. Syrena. Burnt, The Words they were all ml bombs. Keanu put out Knock Knock, 47 Ronan. Just to name few.

You are focusing on Will?? What about Kate?? She is a great actress, but virtually every movie she makes bombs. This one year alone she has 3 bombs in Triple 9, Dressmaker and Collateral Beauty. Come to think of it, if you get rid of Divergent in which she was really supporting, she might not have one hit since Titanic.

reply

Kate is an actress, Will is a moviestar

reply

Kate is an actress, Will is a moviestar

You're right. Kate is an actress who plays characters. Will is more of a personality who typically plays the same persona. There have been times where he's actually played a character, but those scenarios are far and few. Usually it's Will Smith playing Will Smith and saying and doing a lot of things synonymous with his public persona.

Logan, buddy. It's me, Deadpool! I shot youuuuuu....

"Kate is an actress, Will is a moviestar".

I prefaced my comment by saying that Kate is a great actress!!
But at some point even the law of averages has to give you a hit.
Every single movie that Kate is in (other than Titanic), and every single movie that Rachel Weisz is in (other than the Mummy movies), bombs!!
Every one! I have never seen anything like it.
Both Kate and Rachel have bomb after bomb after bomb! Kate has basically 20 years of bombs. And they still keep getting lead roles, or the female lead role.
Again, Kate is a great actress and can play supporting roles. Rachel is an over rated actress, and can not really play supporting roles.
But either way, I am not sure why anyone would still cast either of them in lead roles anymore, as opposed to supporting roles.

reply

Kate Winslet been in some good, memorable movies throughout her career. Revolutionary Road, The Reader, Little Children, etc.

And, well, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind is one of the best movies of all time.

I'd argue that Focus while not a good movie, was at least a fun one.

Whatever you are, be a good one.

reply

I liked Focus. It was over the top and the ending was weak but I liked it

reply

Focus was borderline terrible, as has been almost every Will Smith movie of the last decade. Concussion was OK, his acting was OK in it, that's it. Was not Oscar worthy, and the film wasn't anything great, just OK. I don't even watch many of his dumber entries like "after earth".

The guy is the most annoying actor living today, and his kids are even worse. Please Will, stop trying to force yourself on movies that don't even want or need you. They end up being worse, and you won't win an Oscar. Just stop.

reply

he thinks he has the acting chops like Denzel and he doesn't. too many yes men around him
