Apparently every style knife is a bowie no matter what it's shape.
Some of those knives they called bowies weren't bowies. One was a drop point and one was a seax. Also, some people call bowies clip points.

shareDuring the era that people actually carried and used bowie knives they were considered a bowie knife if it was a big knife regardless of shape. Some were spear pointed, straight point (or seax) clip pointed, drop point etc.. so long as it was just a big knife. So their is a historical precedent already set for hundreds of years.
Ooooooh. OK, that explains it. They're just using it in exchange for the words, "Big knife." Gotcha.
