Oh, Dougie...
I just want to pinch your cheeks. You look like an Asian version of the mad magazine guy. Why are you even on this show, Doug? You do nothing besides some half ass ninja *beep* and say "eet weew keew" or "eet weew cut".

shareWow! He does just as much as the other guys on the show.
Keep your money and your emotions separate.
If you look him up I saw some mma type videos from I think 2006 or so. Not sure if that makes him an expert.
shareI've seen those videos too and he is good but I just don't see his purpose on the show. The master bladesmith guy and the historical weapons expert both seem to know exactly what they're talking about at every turn but Doug...I just don't get it.
I do enjoy watching this show for entertainment purposes although I'm sure some stuff is faked and there's a hell of a lot of special editing.
While I respect Willis' experience and Neilson and Baker's wealth of knowledge, there's something that Marcaida can do that none of them can: He can move with a blade. Haven't you noticed how wooden Jay is with his movements? When he's chopping with a blade, he looks like a Rock 'em, Sock 'em Robot. Though Baker can slash decently with a blade, he also seems really uneasy in front of the camera. Marcaida's artful movements makes those rough-hewn blades seem sexy. I always look forward to seeing Doug at the end of the show.
shareDoug Marcaida teaches kali and karambit, deadly Filipino weapons martial arts weapons use to Police and Special Forces. If you think he's just a pretty face, watch https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vi7TPa1eQ8w or https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AYoDV2jjd9M. He's the only one on the show who teaches use of edged blade weapons.
I don't think he is a pretty face, first off. Secondly, that seems like a freaking worthless career. When was the last time you heard of police or special forces using a sword? Doug is just annoying.
shareWhat he teaches are techniques that translate from open hand to weapons use very fluidly. They're knife-based, combat oriented systems with an emphasis on taking an opponent out of a fight by attacking joints/tendons of the arms and progressing around or inwards toward the core. They aren't showy, but they do work. They're lethal.
When two practitioners square off -assuming it comes to that- someone's going to hospital- liable to be crippled or dead.
Marcaida is one in a long line of men such as Underwood, Applegate, and Fairbairn, whose instructions benefited countless soldiers and law enforcement personnel over the decades. It's hardly worthless.
Marcaida does good work and has every right to be as proud of what he does,if not more so than the other judges. What he does saves lives.
Some people just like to piss and moan, don't they?
BOHICA America!

He's needed if for no other reason than they need 3 judges to break any ties.
