patients don't half recover fast in Chicago

Series one, episode 'Withdrawal' the Jehovah's Witness man has open heart surgery where he is put on bypass. Shortly after, he is awake, not in intensive care, and looking hale and hearty. I know we suspend disbelief when watching drama, but they could've at least had him looking drowsy. In reality, he'd be sedated for 24 hours if not intubated then at least on humidified O2. Apart from getting his recovery wrong, his surgery seemed to take about an hour, rather than 6 - 8 it would actually take. It is so aggravating that they get the medical stuff so wrong.

Do you know how much time has passed between the operation and the recovery? Do we really need to watch a 6-8 hour surgery? If they drug out every case to "real life time" we'd only watch 2 or 3 patient cases per season...maybe even 1 depending on the type of issue. And how interesting would it really be to watch a patient in a coma for 3 months?

Same could be said for drs and nurses who are sick or hurt and back to work the next week. Monday to a Monday is not the same on TV...

The part that bugs me is they treat Rhodes like a surgeon AND an ER physician. You're either one or the other. Surgeons don't take the lead on a patients care in the ER...they are consulted by the ER Dr. or the patients primary Dr.

How is that weird? By the next day the patient should be up and about with a walker.
