First episode on BBC iPlayer

Came across this on iPlayer and thought I'd give it a go... A rather odd tone - it made me think of those slightly worthy sci-fi / fantasy children's series Australia used to make in the '80 and '90s, but with added sex, violence, nudity and a smattering of gore... The biggest problem is that the premise needs explaining much more clearly... Another big issue is that, so far, no one's remotely likeable... Programme-makers these days do seem to think that a show full of unlikeable characters must automatically be "arty" or something. But, in reality, it just makes it a bit difficult to engage with... Having said all that, unengaging first episodes do seem to be fashionable at the moment and I've gone on to like series which have had worse beginnings... I'll watch episode two and see if it perks up.
