Is it really that good or do people only like it for “diversity”?
Is this movie really that good or are people calling it great because it showcases “demographic X”?

shareI liked it and I'm not even a fan of Miles Morales. Also Miles was a character in the Ultimate comics before this movie came out. His whole origin revolves around the Ultimate version of Peter Parker/Spider-Man dying. But personally I don't really care as I never could get into the Ultimate Universe. I prefer the original one. Although I don't read much in the way of modern comics except Venom. And I refuse to read any Spider-Man comics that take place after One More Day from 2007.
In case you don't know, One More Day is a story where Spider-Man and his wife Mary Jane make a deal with an evil demon from Hell in order to bring his Aunt May back to life (she had been shot to death by a sniper hired by the Kingpin). They sell their marriage to the demon in exchange for brining Aunt May back. It's horrible and I hate that they did it. Oh, and the demon goes the extra mile to bring back Harry Osborn from the dead even though neither Spider-Man or Mary Jane asked him for it. The really stupid thing is that Peter doesn't remember making the deal but Mary Jane does remember it.
It's now been 15 years since this story happened and Marvel still has no intention of undoing the deal. Personally I would prefer Aunt May to die. She's always been portrayed as being a really old frail woman and her death would bring character development to Peter. But nope. They don't like character development because they want the comics to be like the 70s when Peter to was single and they want for Peter to never be in a successful relationship with a woman. Because they are all fools.
Sorry for the rant but I can't help but think of this when I think about the original comics.
I do get the feeling people think its the best Spider-man movie because its about Miles and not Peter and probably the animation. In Spider-man 2 Peter has to decide if he wants a normal life or be a Superhero. In the No Way Home, the stakes are way high. At the end of the Movie, Peter has lost his Aunt, His Friends and nobody remembers him. In Comparison Miles got off easy. Sure he lost his Uncle. But he still has his Mom and Dad and all his friends. Miles doesn't has deal with any of the struggles Peter has to in these movies. Saying this is the Best Spider-man movie is pretty laughable.
share- It's the 16th highest rated movie of all time on Letterboxd.
- The 66th highest rated movie of all time on IMDB.
- It won the Academy Award for best animated movie.
- The only two people IRL that I know who have seen it both said it was great.
I haven't seen it, an animated Spider-Man movie doesn't sound like my cup of tea but I'll likely get around to watching this soon. It's clearly a very highly regarded flick.
