... instead of “Spider-Man: Homecoming” (I’m ignoring Spidey’s presence in “CA: Civil War”... he could have been left out of that film).
“Classic” Spider-Man could have been Toby McGuire and slobby “mentor” Spider-Man could have been Andrew Garfield.
The parallel worlds thing would have left the possibility open for the character to eventually enter the MCU.
Instead, Marvel / Sony wimped out.
I think it worked far better as an animated film. Its "comic-book-ness" came out in a way that would not have worked in a film. It also makes for a nice bit of over-the-top fun in between the more grounded Homecoming and (presumably) Far From Home.

Unfortunately, Marvel live-action films all look the same.
And that look has made them insanely popular, legitimatized superhero films as a film genre and netted them BILLIONS of dollars. So there's nothing unfortunate about it unless you're a fan of the second and third rate imitators.
As for THIS film, I normally hate the animated films, but it worked for this story and this concept. Save us from a live action Spider-Ham.
I doubt people are attracted solely to the uniform “look” of Marvel films. Also, Marvel didn’t “legitimize” the superhero genre.
Richard Donner, Tim Burton and Christopher Nolan did that...
Disagree. As much as I love those movies, they were outliers....they weren't a genre. They Donner and Burton blazed the path but it was Fox with the X-Men movies and Sony with the Raimi spider-Man movies and yes Marvel for making them a genre. Nolan....one of the strengths of his superior Batman trilogy, IMO, among non comics fans is that they don't feel like superhero movies.

shareHalf of the reason this movie worked so well is because they had to get creative with the Miles Morales material because Homecoming's Peter took so much from his character in the comics.
Miles was never that interesting in the books but in this film he's gold.
Without Homecoming's existence, I think Miles would have kept being that black experiment Marvel tried hyping up instead of his own solid character.
Spider-Verse had to seriously shake things up for the Miles character. They gave him a legit personality separate from Peter's.
So as much as I am indifferent toward Homecoming as a Spider-Man film, if that film led up to Spider-Verse's version of Miles then hell yes.
I think they will try to remake it as a live action film one day. maybe in 10-15 years when they find they right actors to play the roles.
