The "This movie isn't about racing" complaint

On YouTube I've been seeing alot of bitching and moaning from these fanboys of the earlier movies about this movie not revolving around illegal street racing when the first two weren't really about Street Racing either. First Movie was basically a remake of Point Break with the cars replacing the surfing. Second movie was about Brian and Roman taking down a Drug Lord in Miami. ONLY Tokyo Drift made racing the main focus of the story. The first two movies still had racing in them but so did the later movies. The later movies also have car chases and fast/nice cars as well (just like the other movies) so I really don't understand the complaint.

plus, if Fast & Furious had kept it strictly Street Racing, these movies would be straight to DVD releases by now

@kissfan1981 Case in point: the sequels to Death Race. Both direct-to-video.

reply

The plot has evolved just like it should to create a story and apparently some people don't have the IQ or the patience to experience the entire thing.

reply

The racing in Fast and Furious are lame and boring. No real dangers, or any risks. I prefer Death Race instead. Intensive racings, and Doms catchphrase "ride or die" makes more sense in Death Race.

reply

@Legion1987 And yet both of the sequels to Death Race went direct-to-video. Fast and Furious must've done something right.

reply

I will say that I actually like the Death Race prequels. Yes, they are prequels as they took place before the events of the first film. However, the plot in Death Race 2 is how that whole concept was created and Death Race 3 was more about some guy wanting to franchise it and have it go around the world.

All I need is one mic...

I wish more people realized this, in reality it's only Tokyo Drift that was about racing and only that movie, period.

I'll give it to them that the first two had more racing scenes, but the plot wasn't about racing at all either.

My complaint isn't so much that these movies aren't about racing anymore, so much as the franchise itself has actually become XXX. A government agency has taken a bunch of street racers and made them into into an elite squad of international asskickers and super spys. I've cool with that. Cause they abandoned XXX. But now you're going to start making more XXX sequels too? For some reason, that bugs the hell out of me.

"I said no camels, that's five camels, can't you count?"

reply

Lmao the fact that you use XXX as a standard to judge off of only proves you don't have the mental capacity to understand what you're talking about. XXX is *beep* Fast and Furious has surpassed XXX a long time ago

reply

I think XXX is a good analogy.

Both have Vin Diesel
Both have an extreme side (car racing vs sport)
Both involve crims becoming agents for a gov agency.

Don't get me wrong, I think F&F is a million times better, but it's not a far stretch to compare the two.

reply

Lol I'm sure he has the mental capacity, just that his knowledge in film maybe too limited to support his opinion..

reply

Well the first 3 movies (or 4) were nice and compact. The races weren't a huge factor but were excellent. I didnt like point break that much.

reply

Tell me about it.

reply

OP is wrong

I started watching the movies BECAUSE of the cars

reply

I quite liked the last one, largely because Statham was introduced into the series, but I found this trailer to be a huge disappointment. It has never been just about street racing, and I certainly don't mind plots involving heists. That being said, each new installment has more and more implausible stunts, and the next movie looks like it will surpass 7 in that category. I guess I prefer more practical action based in reality. I want to see racing sequences that at least give an appearance of being plausible. The first thing I thought of when I saw the trailer was 'XXX,' and I hate that series. I wish they would get back to the basics that made the series popular in the first place, continue to feature great cars from the past and present, and maybe introduce some fresh characters.

I also feel like they already showed us the whole movie in the trailer. I really wish Hollywood would quit editing their trailers this way.

reply

I'm sure a lot of people started watching these films because of the cars/racing. Doesn't mean that the movie's plot revolved around the cars/racing (which they didn't besides Tokyo Drift).

reply

You do know that cars are still a main thing that sets this movie apart from other action movies right.
