M.A.S.H. meets the Civil War

Hawkeye Foster, Hot-Lips Hastings, Frank Hale, Col. Summers - even Father Mulcahy has an analog.

Up to a point you are right, but the analogy holds mostly for "Hot Lips" Hastings and "Frank Burns" Hale. The other characters could get away with being like the "M.A.S.H." characters without our actually noticing, because they are not as comical, but in the episode in which Hastings is trying to get Hale to offer himself for a promotion while Col. Summers is trying to give the Inspector General a non-controversial tour of the facilities, it was so comical that I expected Alan Alda to walk into the frame at any moment.
