Welcome to Richmond!
It's exciting to have the cast and crew here in Richmond filming this mini-series. Richmond is one of the hidden gems of the U.S. A great city in which to live and work.

I visited Richmond once. Back then there was a great Cuban restaurant. Not sure how authentic it was, but I liked it.
I'll let you know when I come-up with a new signature, .
Kuba Kuba!
shareUnless they refurbished the inside (which would be a crime) that's not it. The restaurant I went to was almost all wood, dark-brown or perhaps dark-reddish brown which was quite thick. It has an old-world look to it. Perhaps it unfortunately has since gone out-of-business. This was back in the late 90s or the early 00s that I went. However, on second thought I don't think it can be it due to that looks only one floor and I seem to recall the one I went to had a staircase which went down to a basement, not up to a second floor. The inside was bigger than the pictures show of Kuba Kuba.

Unless Havana 59 was also changed on the interior that doesn't seem to be it either.

I have a feeling that it's no longer around. I couldn't find any pics that look like the Cuban restaurant I went to.

Havana 59 was flooded in 2004 during hurricane Gaston and was completely refurbished. It is the only Cuban-themed restaurant in RVA with more than one floor.
shareYes, because it had the name Havana which rang-a-bell for me I was thinking it was Havana 59 after-all. When I was there it had a very old-school look unlike the other Cuban joints in Richmond. Luckily when I went there...there wasn't anyone smoking, or they weren't allowing it.

Cuba Cuba is not very Richmond. That's just ethnic cuisine. Richmond has many wonderful upscale restaurants including Juelp's, Rappahannock, and other fine Southern dining establishments.

I seem to recall it having a dark atmosphere which went along with its thick dark wood and the tables were also dark thick wood. Again not sure if just dark-brown or dark reddish-brown.

I have been to Richmond before (I am from Baltimore but I do not lvie there anymore) and Richmond is a very nice city/town and when I was little my parents took my younger sister and I to the Richmond Zoo and we got to see an elephant eat a whole watermelon it was lol funny. And I love to look up my family tree and my Great, Great, Great Grandmother was born in or around Richmond Virginia. Again it's a very nice city/town.

Its funny you mention Baltimore. I am sort of the opposite. My family has been in Richmond and nearby environs for over 11 generations. But I have a great great great grandmother who was born in Baltimore in 1860. At the time she was born, Baltimore was considered "The South" or a Southern city by many, but today many consider it the North , she would be considered a "Yankee", but her family all fought for the Confederacy and she came to Richmond as a young woman and married my great great great grandfather.

Yes. My brother used to call it the smoking room because it reminded him of an old European gambling club.

Richmond is one of the hidden gems of the U.S. A great city in which to live and work.IF you 1) are white with a good job and own a car who comes from money otherwise you're paid less than minimum wage and can't move up at all. 2) Everything from cable, electric, water, gas, and mostly, FOOD cost the same as it does in Northern Virginia yet salaries are lower... and the cows and chickens are less than 10 miles away! 3) You're an outsider unless you've managed to stick around longer than two years. Granted The Fan and ALL historic districts are cool, no doubt about it, and Poe lived there which makes it even cooler, it's a college town, but the "war ain't over" vibe is thick as thieves. And don't get me started on thievery. And you can't get a bus to the Mall on weekends. What does THAT tell you? It is, however, a great place to visit, spend the weekend, romanticize about, and admire the amazing old buildings and old neighborhoods. It houses the larges Victorian home acreage in the nation I believe, but to live there (well) you either need to arrive from money or bring it with you. Someone needs to tell Richmond the war IS over and start making MONEY off it and get their *beep* together. What the hell are they waiting for?
So everyone (who's been there, that is) is agreed that the Cuban two-story restaurant with a lower-level that had thick dark-brown or reddish dark-brown wood is Havana 59 pre-2004? Seems most-likely to me since another poster said it was the only two-level Cuban restaurant in Richmond.
