Does it get better after the first episode?
Looked like an interesting story idea, but I checked my watch getting through that first hour and half pilot episode. Way too predictable and the character development was lacking. Why should I care about the lead actor who is really good at poetry and lives with his aunt and uncle in public housing. Don't get me started on Jaden Smith, I did not understand his character in the first episode at all but luckily he wasn't really in a lot of scenes. The girl who wants to be this great big famous singer, I mean come on! Baz Lurhman has always been hit or miss for me and while I appreciate the stylish colorful musical look he brings to the picture, there's no real great storyline here to convince someone like me to watch all other 5 or 6 episodes of this. I could barely get through 1 episode but I can see predict the storyline, dude gets inspired by the underground hip hop scene and becomes a pretty decent rapper with his sidekick friends and finally "finds himself".
