Entertaining but messy

Wild and messy, energetic and silly, Baz Luhrmann’s expensive Netflix series The Get Down explodes to life somehow simultaneously undercooked and overdone. A fantastical take on the early days of hip-hop, The Get Down lovingly recreates the graffiti-layered train cars and big-collared fashion of New York (specifically The Bronx) in 1977 while adding a hint of unreality, playing out like a cross between the cult film The Warriors and recent HBO misfire Vinyl: http://www.cutprintfilm.com/tv/tv-reviews/the-get-down/

What a joke. It's great. It's not perfect, but it feels real. And it's fun!
