In the present

Now I know there are many anachronistic aspects at play in this show; many elements out of time from the 1977 setting. But what really perplexes me are the intro shifts to what seems like the present day, with Zeke/Books on stage at a concert setting up each episode through song.

Going by the music, the rhyme style, and the clothing he's wearing, it's a safe bet to assume these bits take place in the present, perhaps even 2016.

If that's the case, wouldn't Zeke be pushing 60? If he was, let's say, 16 in '77, he'd be 55 now. And the way the show portrays the older Zeke...dude's definitely not looking 55.

What do you all think?

I think it looks more like 2004. If it was modern day they'd be doing all sorts of chop and screw and he'd have tight purple pants on. 2016 rap sucks.

reply

Ha! True.

I believe the first episode it said 1996

reply

Oh for real? I must've missed that. Thanks for clearing that up.

Although, they didn't do a good job of making it look or sound like '96

I hope the next part takes place during '94. The end of the Golden Age

I noticed that inconsistency too.The series is so flawed and it seemed so obvious that I thought there had to be a reason for that. But how could the production stumble so sloppily?

reply

The pilot says 1997

Spoilers are overrated...

reply

I totally didn't even notice. I was quite wondering if it took place in 2016 or perhaps a decade before

reply

Probably wasnt in 2016 because...well...just google some of these new artists lol. I use that term loosely lol
