nas

is this susposed to be based on nas's life? or fictional? dont get the hate for this . its actually really decent love this show

Nas was in kindergarten at the time when the events in the show take place. So no, it's not about his life.

The show isn't based on any specific person but it does reference real people involved in Hip-hop and NY politics in the late-70s.

It kind of reminds me of Boardwalk Empire the way it blends fiction and history

At the end of the pilot, shaolin mentions that they were going to be, 'the fantastic four and one more'... Similar to an actual act called, 'the funky four plus one more'...

right on , its not a bad show though justndont know y people are hating it

It's fictional. Outside of maybe seeing some park jams or dj battles as a kid, I can't imagine this would have a lot to do with Nas' life. Oddly enough, I thought of Nas when I saw adult Books rhyming at the beginning then I saw he was actually involved with the show. Being a kid during that period and loving that era of hip hop since back then, I could imagine he probably helped a bit.

I thought they did a job with the wardrobe and overall 70s feel. The hip hop kids looked like 70s hip hop kids and not like LL Cool J wannabes. The rapping felt pretty authentic for that time period, kind of like hearing the Cold Crush Brothers or something instead of something from another decade.

The rapping felt pretty authentic for that time period

Correct me if I'm wrong, but the fast (tongue-twista) style of rapping didn't come from the 70's Bronx. That was more of a mid-west style of rap, popularized by Twista and Bone Thugs & Harmony much much later.

Yep and that IS Nas rapping the adult Books part in every beginning.

reply

No. He just provided the voice of the rapper.

yeah thats what i meant = thats Nas RAPPING…obviously not playing the part!

Most people seem to like it but there's haters for every show, especially on IMDB.

I came here for a similar reason, cause, they keep using Nas' raps and voice, and acting like the words are representative of the biographical story, but Nas was born in 1973 and 'Zeke is d*** near a man in this show.

During the first episode I kept saying "How old do they think Nasir is 'sposed to be? I know he's God's Son and all, but that don't mean he's been living for 800 years like he's God's Son."

But also, whoever 'Zeke grows up to be in 1999 is way too young, as 'Zeke was probably born between 1960-1961, and dude did not look like he was pushin' 40.

This is a fictional show about real events. Nas woul dhave been about 6 years old in 1977. So it's not about him.
