It's neither silencing criticism or fascism. It was Capitalism. It was obviously a money decision.
I don't like it, but that is their prerogative.

And you simply need to switch to this Board, IMDBv2.0, One Movie Avenue, or TMDB. There are lots of places to discuss film.

Im very skeptical about the idea that maintaining the message boards represented anything like a significant expense for them.

Probably not, but they weren't making any money off of them either. As they say, "Always follow the money."
