Oh, I get it. This is Scooby Doo, Where Are You...

...except a lot more condescending, and all the villains are females. 

All females are evil so why not?

It's rather disappointing, isn't it? They really could have done more.

Yeah, I know. And I don't get it, either. I don't understand it when producers will come up with a very good show concept filled with so much potential and then play it safe in execution. This show is so paint by numbers, it's not even funny. I can't help but feel offended. Is it formulaic because the talent isn't there, or because it, being a British production, the producers thought, "Well, we have to dumb it down for an American audience?"

The 1970 kids show, The Double Deckers, was an English show made for American kids, and there was a token black youth, and even he spoke about how they couldn't make fun of him because it might offend someone (he labels basically the Ameircan viewing audience, not just the black audience from that time).

I posted last week about how Houdini and Doyle are virtually doing nothing, as the lady is doing everything. I would have rather they made Mrs. Houdini the female token, if they felt she was so necessary.

But we have virtually no interaction between Houdini and Doyle. The plots could be as minimal as they come as long as the two leads interacted, but they aren't.

haha! I'm 10 minutes into the first episode, and I think you have just put the whole series in perspective for me. The jarring use of modern language and Weston's grating American voice sent me here after that mere 10 minutes, so the perspective is much needed.

I shall now watch it as a turn of the century spoof of Scooby Doo. Thank you.

Wait...wait...You mean you don't like it that someone back at the turn of the century is saying stuff like, "Garbage in, garbage out!" or "Playing the Nicky card?" But aren't you an American?!

(In case you're wondering what I mean, I'm getting the feeling that the anachronisms are there to pander to a "dumb" American audience, as if the writers and producers thought the show needed "hipping up" to hold our attention.)

You're very welcome! 
