Some of us cannot access that article!

Sorry about that.

Often the WSJ will leave select articles up for a few days before putting them behind a paywall.

This looks like a reprint:

Why is it any news?

Everyone always do it, it’s part of the promotional campaign of Every blockbuster. Sure it’s quite shady and not fair to audiences who listen to the influencers but it’s a know deal.

And it’s not like they are paid with Money they are paid with gifts to give away to their fans, getting invited to comic con seeing films before anyone etc.

Here in Mexico we have lots of Those influencers, I know with them I listen to their opinion about movies with a grain of Salt.

But at the end all Youtube influencers of every subject get less genuine.
Make up and fashion bloggers end up that way too. Brands like L’Oréal and maybeline give them free stuff and with that they feel a bit obliged to speak good about certain products.

That’s the deal with influencers

I get what you're saying, but in many cases it is illegal - it's also called 'payola' or 'pay to play'.

If Disney wasn't doing anything wrong, they would never have used 3rd parties to quietly funnel money to these propagandists called 'influencers'.

I'm not naive, but it is still worth pointing-out, even if the unethical and/or illegality of it is never enforced for large corporations like Disney.

That Disney would take something like 'Star Wars', which is arguably now a part of the country's culture's shared heritage (if not the world's), and go to enormous lengths to pervert its characters and storylines in the name of social engineering, and then attempt to gaslight the populace with lies as to there being organic approval of the new direction - all this indicates a diseased and corrupt company that is not operating in the best interests of anyone other than itself.

The company should be dismantled, and worse should happen to its officers. But, it will never happen because the entire purpose of a corporation is to essentially shield criminals from the consequences of their behavior.

The best one can do in this world is vote with your dollar, and throw virtual rotten tomatoes at corporate & political criminals (which is pretty much all of them).

It's not much, it is what it is.

This isn't only about Disney, this is about corporate corruption, the political corruption that allowed one company so much power, and the cultural health of the country.

I know what Payola means, I’ve heard that a lot in music and radio stations. But ughh I don’t think Payola really applies what happens is : influencers want to go to The premieres, press junkets, meet and greetings and get many other cool stuff.

And the way to get this is speaking well about the movies or trying to decorate a bad review.
There is a critic in My country(Mexico) saying he has avoided press junkets and doing interviews for his Chanel because it makes him censor himself when it comes to movies opinions.

That all companies have told him I invite you to this event but when you give your review try to be nice towards our movies.

It’s not that repulsive as you paint it, the idea sure is not so nice but happens in every industry don’t get to caught up on that.
Influencers in every subject get bought.

Bloggers and influencers are the new models and stars. People here Chanel is great in this and people want to buy that product from Chanel and then Chanel sends them gifts and they feel compromised to give their products great reviews to keep getting stuff.

Common knowledge the major studios do this, particularly for their big budget films. As just one example, most of the mods on the "movies" sub on Reddit are studio plants, and threads are astroturfed to shit. Go there and try to say anything even slightly negative about a new release and watch how fast you are downvoted.

Now this site is small enough that the studios don't seem to pay it much mind, so we can speak freely...for the time being.
