Why stick around the whole night? Why not just drug the other kids and take the young one right away. If they did it like that they would have gotten away with it.

I agree. The writers did a bad job on this and forced the "happy" ending. It was clear the "bad guys" should have won, but they wanted a better ending... that ruined it for me.

She implied on the phone that the evening had been about determining if this child was the one (or type) she wanted. Not sure exactly what criteria her cracked mind required but it seems it took a process to determine if he fit them.
One imagines other evenings with other families where the child didn't pass the vetting process. I wonder how those times ended?

exactly this. the things she did were to test the childrens reactions. eventually she sent a text to her boyfriend stating that she had found her 'cub'. she didn't just want a child, she wanted one that she could feel was HER child

Also I understood it to mean the absolute moron badguy partner of hers who was watching the parents in the restaurant crashed his car into their taxi/uber/whatever that was, just to stop them from getting home sooner. And he couldnt do this by simply smashing the vehicle in a non-suicidal way? All the car needed to have was any kind of accident and they wouldnt be getting home on time. What an utter clown.
I dont say this too often for movies but this one really had a lot of issues with plot holes and generally very stupid writing. The whole film just falls apart towards the 2nd half. All the writers should be force fed Anna's dirty tampons for this crime.
