VHS tape?
I had two questions. One who still uses VHS? The second one is why would the parents be stupid enough to make a sex tape?
shareI had two questions. One who still uses VHS? The second one is why would the parents be stupid enough to make a sex tape?
shareThey could've made the tape a while back as newlyweds or something.
shareeven if that's the case, who has a vhs player still under their tv? i could understand if they had one in the attic or the cellar.
shareJust because most people don't have one, doesn't mean that no one has one
sharetheir oldest child was 11. they likely would have some childrens movies from when he was younger which were kept for the other children and so they kept the player for a while even though it was outdated tech
I still know one or two people today who own VHS players for similar reasons. keep in mind that not every movie on VHS was ever released on DVD or BluRay

The girl said it wasn't her mother though
shareBut the other kid says "Daddy's naked!" When Jake turns off the tape, his objection is "That's private." It wouldn't make any sense for him to be guarding a porn star's privacy, IMO.
shareI think the dad cheated. Explains "that's not mommy", but it is the dad.
shareIt could mean he cheated, but it could also mean one of these:
1. The dad still had a tape he made before he started dating the mom.
2. The girl in the tape WAS the mom, but the daughter couldn't recognize her.
3. The man in the tape wasn't the dad, but the little boy said "Daddy's naked" because he speaks gibberish and/or assumed it was his dad (maybe the male's face wasn't visible on the tape)
"who still uses VHS?"
I had Beta long after you couldn't even Beta blank tapes any more. And for exactly the same reason.
My mother still has a VHS hooked up. It probably hasn't been used in 15 years, but it is there.
I assume they still have there's hooked up because either they never bothered to remove it or to play this old tape.
At least no one here is screaming about there being a landline. I see that on other threads and that always makes me feel old as so many of my circle (and myself) have landlines - and cellphones and Skype too of course.
"What kind of tea do you want?"
"There's more than one kind?"
Back when camcorders stared to enter most homes I would guess most parents made at least one 'movie'; know we did!
shareI thought it may not be set in the present day, based on the house phone, mobile (cell) phone and the use of VCR's - although some still use them, I have one for old tapes
shareI thought the same about the cell phone and VHS. That it may have been set around 2002-2005. But then I remember they had an iPad.
However, it's not uncommon to have a VHS player kicking around. Also notice the TV was also a box style and not a flat screen (those TVs are more rare than VHS players).

You probably answered your own question. They might have made it years ago--that's why it's on VHS. And while they should have gotten rid of it, maybe they weren't all that worried about their kids using the old VHS player.
I'm sure parents have made sex tapes in real life. It's a stupid thing to do, but not unbelievably stupid.
